Essential Destination Wedding Kit: A Pack for a Blissful Celebration

After 10+ years in the wedding industry and 5 years as a destination wedding makeup artist, I have learned a thing or two about what you need to have on hand to have a good trip.  Whether you are a guest or the to-be-wed, there are some crucial items that you should not forget to pack for your wedding. Consider this your go-to survival kit for navigating the unique challenges that come with a destination wedding. Proper preparation will ensure that you get to enjoy every moment of your trip, so take notes!

  1. SUNSCREEN FROM HEAD TO TOE:

This is the MOST IMPORTANT: Packing sunscreen for a tropical trip probably sounds obvious, but there is always at least one bridesmaid who forgot to pack SPF and is rocking a lobster-esque sunburn on the wedding day. Don’t be that friend--pack for that friend. Bring a body sunscreen, a face sunscreen, a lip sunscreen (my favorite is JACK BLACK | Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25), and sunscreen stick for easy re-application. Vacation Inc. Classic Spray is my  personal favorite for the body, known for its ultra lux light scent and non-greasy feel. For facial protection, I prefer Korean sunscreen that has a PA+++ rating which measures UVA protection on top of the standard SPF rating for UVB. Beauty of Joseon is my personal favorite for my face, and I also love their SPF stick for reapplication and for protecting the part in my hair at the beach.

2. Tension Relieving Massage Ball:

If you’re going to hike one day (even if it’s just through the airport) and party all night the next, your feet are going to need a little TLC. Destination weddings often involve extensive periods of standing, dancing, and exploring. A tension-relieving massage ball for your feet can be a game-changer. This simple addition to your travel essentials can significantly enhance your comfort and stamina throughout any trip. DUENORTH | Due North Foot Rubz Massage Ball

3. Hydrating Mask for Sensitive Skin:

Even with the best intentions, sunburns can happen. Be prepared with a hydrating mask specifically designed for sensitive skin. Once your skin is burnt, it’s compromised and needs care that is a little bit more gentle than what you would otherwise give it. A mask that can help reduce redness, inflammation, and discomfort, will allow your skin to recover and look its best for the remainder of the celebration.

4. Electrolytes for Hydration:

The combination of warm weather, dancing, and perhaps a celebratory drink or two can lead to increased sweating. Replenish the essential minerals and salts your body loses through sweat by packing electrolytes. These handy supplements help prevent dehydration, fatigue, and headaches, ensuring you stay energized and ready to fully enjoy the festivities.

5. Deodorant Wipes:

In the heat of the celebration, especially in tropical destinations, freshening up on-the-go is crucial. Deodorant wipes are a quick and convenient solution. A simple swipe can provide an instant refresh, keeping you feeling and smelling your best, even after hours of dancing and revelry.SHOP AOA | Aoa Studio Body Refresher Deodorant Wipes

6.Kindle Paperwhite:

While the destination itself may be breathtaking, downtime is inevitable. And if you’re like me, there is nothing better than a book next to a body of water. Ensure you never run out of reading material by packing a Kindle Paperwhite. I resisted e-readers for the longest time, but I was gifted a Kindle for Christmas, and it changed the way I treat my beach time. Lightweight and with a batter that seems to never die, you’ll have a million books at your fingertips and won’t even need to pack a charger. https://amzn.to/4dROv7Q

7. Waterproof Mini Speaker:

Set the mood with your favorite tunes by investing in a waterproof mini speaker. Not only perfect for wedding mornings, but this accessory can also accompany you on boat trips and beach days. The benefits extend beyond personal enjoyment; a well-chosen playlist can enhance the overall atmosphere of the celebration, turning ordinary moments into unforgettable ones. I have a portable Anker speaker (https://amzn.to/4bNUQj1) that I love for mellow beach days and recently upgrade to a portable Bose speaker (https://amzn.to/4aAWIdT) for an enhanced audio experience in higher-volume environments like boat days or bridal getting-ready rooms.

8. Sunshield for Ultimate Protection:

Taking sun protection to the next level, a sunshield like the one from Blue Stone Sunshields offers superior UVA/UVB protection. While you might endure some friendly teasing from the groomsmen, your skin will thank you in the long run. The benefits include reducing the risk of sun damage, premature aging, and potential skin issues, ensuring you maintain a radiant complexion for years to come.

9. Mobile OTC Pharmacy:

Emergencies happen, and it's best to be prepared. A mobile over-the-counter (OTC) pharmacy should include pain relievers, pepto (for stomach upsets), and hydrocortisone (for itching and rashes). This compact arsenal ensures that minor discomforts don't escalate, allowing you to swiftly address unexpected health concerns and get back to celebrating.

10. Entertainment Essentials:

As a thoughtful suggestion from my boyfriend, consider packing an HDMI cord or a Fire Stick for entertainment in your hotel room. This allows you and your companions to stream your favorite shows or movies, providing a cozy and enjoyable way to unwind before the big day. It's a simple addition that can make downtime more entertaining and memorable.

This wedding destination packing list is not for the minimalists--it’s for the prepared. Partying, celebrating, and adventuring in another country is an amazing time, but IMO, hectic events like destination weddings can be made much more enjoyable with some creature comforts that take care of your body. Each item in this survival kit serves a specific purpose, addressing potential challenges while enhancing the overall experience of a destination wedding. From physical comfort and skincare to entertainment and health preparedness, these essentials ensure you're not just attending a wedding; you're fully immersing yourself in the experience. Pack wisely and enjoy the ride!
